The Trade Commissioner Service in Brunei and the Philippines is pleased to invite you to the "Unlocking Halal agri-food opportunities in Brunei and the Philippines" webinar on September 15, 2026, from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM (Ottawa).
This webinar will showcase Brunei and the Philippines as promising halal export markets for Canadian agri-food products, provide insights into market opportunities and regulatory requirements, and encourage participation in Halal Expo Philippines 2027. It also aims to strengthen collaboration between Canadian and Philippine halal stakeholders, expand market access for Canadian halal products, and support Canadian exporters in growing their presence across the Indo-Pacific region.
Brunei
Brunei Darussalam presents a niche but attractive opportunity for Canadian agri-food exporters. As a high-income, Muslim-majority country with a strong reliance on imported food, Brunei offers demand for high-quality halal products across categories such as meat, seafood, dairy, processed foods, and ingredients. The country's rigorous halal standards, commitment to food security, and efforts to expand its halal industry create opportunities for Canadian companies to grow beyond commodity exports, establish strategic partnerships, and access wider halal markets in Southeast Asia. With Canadian products currently having a limited presence compared to major suppliers, there is significant potential to build brand recognition and expand market share in a market that values quality, food safety, and halal integrity.
Philippines
The Philippines presents a significant and rapidly growing opportunity for halal trade, driven by a Muslim population of 7 to 12 million and increasing nationwide demand for halal products. The country imported Can$168 billion worth of halal products in 2023, including dairy, beef, poultry, and food ingredients, while also exporting Can$188.26 million in halal-certified goods to key markets such as Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Through the Philippine Halal Industry Development Strategic Plan (2023 to 2028) and the "Halal-Friendly Philippines" initiative, the government aims to position the country as a leading halal hub in the Asia-Pacific, attracting investment, creating jobs, expanding halal-certified products, and strengthening access to the global halal market of 1.9 billion Muslim consumers. For Canadian exporters, the Philippines offers strong opportunities to meet growing demand, establish partnerships, and expand their presence in one of Southeast Asia's most promising halal markets.
